Students from Natchez and Starkville will be featured in a July 11-14 production of "Sylvia" at Mississippi State.
A.R. Gurney's Off-Broadway comedy tells how Sylvia, an aggressive new-found dog, almost breaks up the marriage of Greg and Kate.
The communication department's Summer Theater Workshop opens in the McComas Hall theater at 7:30 p.m. on the 11th, 12th and 13th, and at 2:30 p.m. on the 14th. Tickets, which can be reserved or purchased at the door, are $6 for adults; $3 for students and senior citizens.
Julie A. Rathwell of Starkville stars as the title-role canine. She is a sophomore communication major.
William T. Watkins, also of Starkville, is "Greg" and Shana N. Graves of Natchez is "Kate." Watkins is a sophomore computer engineering major, while Graves is a senior communication/public relations major.

The play is directed by communication professor Jeffrey S. Elwell. Wayne Durst, an assistant professor, is stage designer.
Originally, "Sylvia" was produced by the Manhattan Theater Club with support from the makers of Milkbone dog food. Sarah Jessica Parker had the starring role, along with Charles Kimbrough, a.k.a. "Jim Dial" on CBS's Murphy Brown.
