June of 2001 my son graduated high school and joined the Army!! Through tears of pride and the feel of emptiness I said goodbye as the Army took the job I had held 18 years!! Brandon joined in with the 82nd Airborne, which was activated in August 1917. The 82nd Airborne has a rich history. It participated in 3 major offensives in WWI. In WWII, America's first Airborne Division made 4 combat jumps, leading the way in Siciky, Salerno, Normandy and Holland. They served ultimately as "America's Guard of Honor" in Berlin. Since their return to Fort Bragg in 1946, elements of the Division have been dispatched to troubled areas all around the world. Today they stand ready to move at a moments notice by air and airborne assault, whenever needed anywhere in the world. The 82nd Airborne has demonstrated it's excellence throughout the history of this great nation and once again stands ready to serve it's country as President Bush calls them to action after the terrorist attack on America. The excellence of this Division is the sum total of the efforts of all the soldiers who have served in it's ranks. Now my son's name will take it's place in this long list of honor!! Please join me in praying for the safty of all our armed forces as they defend each of us in the weeks...months...and years ahead!!
