The following is written by William Waggoner, grandson of David Waggoner: "My grandfather, David Waggoner, was ninety-four years old when he died and so I have been near to him for several years of my life. He has told me many times of his ancestors coming from Pennsylvania to Ohio (near Coshocton). I don't remember much that he may have told me but his grandfather, David (1796-1883), except he lived in Ohio and had a close call once while hunting. He had shot a bear and had only wounded it. He did not have time to reload his muzzle-loader until the bear was opon him and probably would have killed him except for his little dog. The dog would grab the bear by the hind leg and as the bear would turn on the dog, great-great grandfather, David, would club the bear with his gun. Both he and the dog working together were able to kill the bear."
