Multiple Intelligences and Learning Style Discussion Paper
As a new teacher there are many things that we have learned in the area of teaching. Teaching will be challenging because so many children/young adults have many different ways they learn. Students will also be a challenge because they all learn at a different rate as well. I plan to discuss the index of Learning Styles tests, the Multiple Intelligence test, and what my learning styles mean to the type of teacher I will be later.
First I would like to discuss my results in the index of Learning Styles test. On the active and reflective learner sections I scored right in the middle of the two. On the sensing and intuitive learner I scored a 3 on the sensing side. On the visual and verbal learner I received a 2 more on the visual side. On the sequential and global learner I scored a 3 more on the global side. I think this test seemed to be pretty accurate to the type person I am as well as the type learner I feel I am.
Second I will discuss my results of the Multiple Intelligence test. My high scores/ possible strengths were interpersonal 38, naturalistic 37, body/kinesthetic 37 and mathematics 32. After reading the meaning of the eight styles I scored high in the top three styles I chose were most like me. I didn’t really pick the mathematics for myself, but when I thought about it I do like to figure things out and I do ask a lot of questions at times. I do feel that this test did describe my strengths for the most part.
Last I would like to discuss what my learning styles meant to the type of teacher I will be later. According to the VARK questionnaire results I scored higher in the visual and kinesthetic areas. I do learn well visual and by doing. I feel that because I am a visual and body type learner that I will be able to provide good visual aids for students as well as be able to explain things to them in more than one way. On the learning styles test I balanced between the two dimensions of the scale. That makes me feel good. That way when I teach I can hopefully balance out those who learn at a different speed or a different style. As far as the multiple intelligence test revealed a lot of my personality. I feel if I have a positive personality that will help me to encourage students to become better and even help those students who may just have a negative era about them. I feel that a positive teacher will help to bring out the best in many students, but not all. I feel that I am pretty patient and well rounded as a person as well as in my learning styles. I hope that I will be able to give my students guidance as well as make learning fun for them, so that they will succeed.
