Module 3: Activity 2

Play the game "How Low Can You Go?" **

** Gail Junion-Metz presented this game for use in the classroom in workshop titled, "Web 'Searchmaster' Skills and Search Tools" at the ALA Conference, November 1999

The objective to this game is to practice using different search techniques to try and narrow your search.  The winner is the player who ultimately locates a pre-selected home page (or gets the fewest relevant hits).

I. Follow these steps to play this game.
1. Consult your learning partner to choose a search engine that both of you will use in this game.
2. After selecting a search engine, employ different search techniques to locate a specific home page.
3. Each participant’s results should be posted to the class listserv.
4. Feedback on the game is to e-mailed to the course facilitator.

II. Write a reflection and post it to the listserv.  Think about these questions in your reflection.
Was this game effective in helping you practice your search skills?
Should this game be offered to future participants?
How could this activity be improved?
