A nice little Iris setosa seedling: We had 3 show up in one batch of seeds from this native Alaskan wildflower. The only one to live and hold its color, this turned 3 years old in 2001. By 2003, it had outgrown the variegation but if we can coax it to set seed, we might just find a more stable plant.
Perhaps because so many irises are grown in our garden, we see a number of variegated iris seedlings. I. setosa, I. versicolor, 40-chrom Siberians, Pardancanda norrisii and one species-x have all shown some variegation. The trick is always finding ones that will live AND hold the color.
