variegated normal purple leafed
We started with one variegated California poppy. The color was so interesting that seeds were saved and planted out the following year. We knew, since it had most likely crossed with another non-variegated plant that we probably wouldn't see variegation in the first generation and we were right.
The second generation produced not only some lovely variegation but also a wider range of bloom colors. We save seed from the variegated plants each year (allowing them to cross only with each other) and the flowers now come in every shade of orange, yellow, pink, rose, and white.
The first purple leafed CA poppy showed up a few years later. We've added another photo of the purple leafed plants.
