The rain pelted against the hospital windows. He cradled her in his arms. Rocking her to the beat of the rain. Warm tears slipped down his cheeks as the rain outside slowed. He looked down at the woman in his arms and she once again appeared to be the little girl with whom he used fight with over everything.
*flashback*
The rain had almost completely stopped. Now it was just a plain cold day.
*flashback*
Hours later Jacob looked at his watch. 3:42 pm. It was darker outside than usual. He'd been up all night. He put Jay down and picked up her hand. Jacon shifted in the uncomfortable hospital chair, trying to get comfortable. After about 15 minutes of shifting he fell into a light slumber. So light in fact, he could still hear the beeps and buzzes of the machines keeping trak of his best friends body. Slowly, Jacob fell into a deeper sleep. Hours later Jacob was jolted awake by the constant high pitched sound of a heart monitor. Jacob looked around. Doctors and nurses rushed in around him. One nurse shook him.

A few minutes later Jacob lifted his head and spoke.

"It's my turn!" The little girl screamed at her cousin who was just a year older.
"No! It's mine!" The boy yelled, grabbing a handfull of his 5 year old cousin's long, dark hair. The girl kicked and screamed, still holding onto the controller. A young woman, in her late 20's walked into the room.
"Auntie Mechele!" The girl wailed "Jacob pulled my hair!"
"You took the controller from me!"
"It was my turn!"
"No, it was mine!" Jacob yelled
*end of flashback*
"You can't leave me now Jay," Jacob whispered to his younger cousin who was now 21 years old.
"There's no cold days in July,"
"Sure I'm moving now. But the day that I actually leave you will be a cold day in July," a 13 year old Jay said to Jacob. They were laying in the hammock which had always been in Jay's backyard. Jacob looked at Jay.
"But you said you'd never leave me," He said sadly
"I'll always be a phone call away," Jay said "Besides, There's no cold days in July," Jay looked at her cousin and smiled sweetly before pulling on his nose. She tried to get up quickly but they both ended up on a heap on the ground.
"That's it! You're gonna get it!" Jacob yelled before getting up to chase Jay who was already up and running away.
*end of flashback*
"You have to leave," She said firmly. He didn't respond. Jacob sat in shock. The nurse shook him again.
"You have to leave," She said, much firmer this time. This time Jacob shouted.
"NO!!" He screamed. Tears streamed down his cheeks. In a short amount of time two male nurses had restrained Jacob. He acted as if they hadn't touched them. He fought hard until they finally got him to the hallway. Jacob slumped down against the wall. He sat with his knees curled up to his chest. A few minutes later he felt someone sit beside him.
"Are you ok?" A soft voice asked. Jacob turned his head to see his mother sitting beside him.
"She said she'd never leave," Jacob sobbed
"She won't," His mother replied
"Then why is she in there," Jacob choked out "Threatening to leave?" Mechele wrapped her arm around her son's shoulder.
"Jay will never leave you. She'll always be with you in here," She said as she put her hand over Jacob's heart.
"She's too young," Jacob said "She's too damn young," Jacob buried his head in his mothers Vshoulder much like he used to when he was still that six year old. Mechele wrapped both her arms
around her son's body and held him while he cried.
The shrill noise kept up as doctors worked on the young womans body. They kept at it, but the noise just wouldn't stop.
"Call it," A doctor said sadly. A nurse looked at her watch and spoke.
"Time of death, 12:44 am,"

"She's gone,"
The moon is full and my arms are empty
All night long how I've pleaded and cried
You always said the day that you would leave me
Would be a cold day in July
Here comes that cold day in July
