disneyland
march 6-10
My parents took us on a vacation to Disneyland this spring and the boys had an absolute great time.  After arriving on Sunday we browsed through Downtown Disney (a big street of shopping just outside disneyland) and had dinner at the Rainforest Cafe.  Payton cried most of the time there, but Conner thought the elephants & gorillas & mini hot dogs were pretty cool.  For the next 3 days we spent time between Disneyland and California Adventure.
It was nice to go to C.A. on day 2 and get a break from the crowds.  Memorable experiences there:  experiencing the interactive 3-D Bug's Life movie (see silly 3-D bug glasses below) and seeing Conner get really freaked out.  Then the "big" boys took Conner on the Tower of Terror -- yes, our 4 year old went on a ride that involved a 13-story elevator drop.  He took it like a champ but he let us know repeatedly that he did not want to go on the elevator ride again.  Once home, he started drawing pictures of the ride all over the place -- kinda reminded me of some psycho therapy exercise.  Hopefully we haven't tramatized the kid.
At Disneyland Conner's favorite ride hands-down was Thunder Mountain.  He said he liked it because you could scream.  He  rode it 5 times, hands in the air, and screaming all the while.  A close second was Star Tours, where he REALLY did believe that he was travelling to the moons of Endor -- ah, the innocence of youth.  Other favorites:  It's a Small World, the space rockets in tomorrow land, and California Soarin' (for which Conner raised his feet everytime we flew over the ocean's crashing waves).
On day 1 we all loved the Haunted Mansion.  But when we came back on Day 3 and entered the dark room, Conner was convinced we had taken him on the elevator ride again and started to freak out -- "we have to get out of here!"  Dad was able to make an exit with him before the doors closed
I know I haven't mentioned much (or at all) about Payton.  But, he's 2 and pretty much went on all the calm rides he was allowed to, received continual snacks & treats from grammer & papa, and napped all the time in between.  And throughout the trip he had a odd obsession with doors and water -- all doors had to be touched, and all water had to be yelled & pointed at.
A highlight for Scott and I was getting an evening away from the boys.  My parents took them while we dined at The Blue Bayou -- the restaurant inside the Pirates of the Caribbean ride.  A family with 2yr old twins were at the table next to us and we were feeling pretty happy that wasn't us!
For more pictures from our trip, here's a little scrapbook album I made as a thank-you to my parents for taking us on this wonderful trip:  Disneyland Album
