I have worn hats of all kinds and sizes throughout my life from actual softball team caps to military hats when I served in the military. One day, I was sporting a bright sequined red baseball cap that had a purple star on it. I got into the elevator and put the hat on my head while we rode down. Little did I know that the president of the company didn't like my red hat and the fact that I was wearing it. The next day, he called my boss and told her to tell me not to wear my red hat because it didn't go with the company image.
I love my hats and I wear one every day to and from work. While out and about I would spot all of the red hats and wondered what the universe was trying to tell me. I already had outfits of purple hanging in my closet, I already had a red hat and scarf. Hmmmm....maybe I should find out so, I got on the internet and keyed in Red Hat Society, and that led me to the home page. I read all about this group of middle aged women who meet life with humor and silliness. They sport red hats and wear purple outfits and go out shopping, go to teas, and fun things. For their birthdays, they wear purple hats and wear red outfits. This is right up my alley I said to myself. I LOVE THOSE COLORS!!!! I signed up that day and paid for a years membership. Need I say that I went out and found the red hat shown in the picture. I put the purple and red scarf on the band. Found a few pins to place in my hat and felt downright great. I donned my outfit for an adventure out shopping. I was standing at the bus stop when I heard "Where are the red hats going today?" I looked in the direction of the womans voice and saw a woman who had stopped her car across from me to ask me the question. I smiled and said "Out shopping, of course" She said "Have fun!!!" and drove off. This is called fun!!
When I wear my colors and my red hat, I find that there are a lot of people out there who know who we are. I am asked about them and if I am a member. It is quite a conversation starter. What kind of image am I portraying. I guess time will tell. Maybe, during Halloween when I plan to wear my Red Hat Society colors to work (Red Hat and all) I will find out the answer.
