| Going Hidden stars behind the veil Heaven's portrait setting sail Filtered rays betray the dusk And feebly land in darkened hush The gentle breezes fill their task A victory o'er daylight's past So softly does the nighttime fall Belittled kingdom reigning tall I watch the moon as it sneaks into the sunset, looking over the valley with a hint of victory. The sky holds onto the traces of the vibrant display, then slowly losing it to the darkness, and dispersing into the shades of night's glory. The call of a whipporwill contrasts with the solemn slumber of the forest, evidence of the unseen activities beginning. Crickets and frogs scramble to make their voices heard over each other, growing stronger in the distance, yet disappearing around my footsteps. Silhouettes dance together against the deep blue horizon, keeping time with the twinkling of the stars. Their hushed laughter is carried off in the wind, in the rustling branches and leaves. The valley murmurs with life, hidden within its calling. I watch and listen, wide-eyed and cowardly, unable to penetrate the beauty of this world, yet so completely wrapped within its wonder. I close my eyes and wander onto the forest path, led only by my heart. I let the moon caress me and bathe me with its protective light. And as I travel further into this forgotten world, I become part of it, following my journey of faith until it leads me home. |
