Shaman King is about a boy named Yoh Asakura and his quest to become Shaman King. If you are wondering what is a shaman, it is a person who will let spirits take over their body to make them stronger. Then you may be asking what is a shaman king? Well a shaman king is practically just the Most Powerful Shaman.
The story begins when a boy named Manta was coming home from juku(cram school). He was late for a train, so he had to pass through a graveyard. He met Yoh at the graveyard, and at first Manta thought that Yoh was some kind of weirdo but later on when Yoh went to Mantas school, they became really good friends.
When Manta didn't really know who Yoh was Manta started to stalk Yoh. Yoh told him that he was a Shaman who wanted to become Shaman King. With Manta's help, Yoh found A 600 year-old spirit named Amidamaru. At first, he and Annidamaru only worked together to get rid of Ryu, who was overturning gravestones and breaking them. Then when Yoh helped Amidiamru get reunited with his friend, Mosuke, Amidimaru helped Yoh.
One Day a boy named Tao Ren Came to Tokyo where Yoh was. Ren Also was a Shaman with the spirit of a Chinese warrior Bason. Ren Noticed that Amidamaru was very strong, so Ren tried to take it from Yoh. Ren Challenged Yoh to a Shaman Fight. It took a very long time, but eventually, Yoh won. Yoh became unconscious after the fight because he used up most of his energy.
Manta took Yoh to the hospital after the fight. After Yoh Finally Woke up A girl named Anna was waiting there. Anna also has the abilities to summon spirits from anywhere. She explained to yoh that Yoh's Grandmother decided that she was going to be Yoh fiance (its kinda young to have a fiance at age 13). She also Told yoh that he had to become shaman king because she wanted to become the wife of the Shaman King.
A while latter Tao Jun, Tao Ren's sister came to Tokyo to force Yoh to give Amidamaru to Ren. Jun also brought along Li Pai Long. Li Pai Long Was under a curse that Tao Jun put on him. Somehow Yoh was able to break the curse that Jun put on Li Pai Long and Pai Long Remembered what had happened to him. He used to be a famous Kung Fu star, but the Tao Family killed him. Pai Long got really upset and started to attack Jun. Yoh didn't want anyone to get hurt so He tried to protect Jun. Anna helped by putting a spirit in yoh called Shamon and He was a master at kung fu. He thought Li Pai Long.Yoh Defeated Pai Long at the end and Pai Long decided to become Jun's spirit if she wouldn't control him with her magic.
Bokutou no Ryu and his gang where trying to find the best place in their lives. They found an old bowling ally but Ryu didn't like it at all. When The Walking out of the Bowling ally Ryu saw Anna and he fell in love with her. Anna told him that she has a Fiance and Ryu was heart broken. Ryu went back to the to the bowling ally crying. A little latter Ryu Meets Tokagero, who was a thief 600 years ago and was killed by Amidamaru. Tokagero Possess Ryu, Taking over his body.
Tokagero came back to get revenge on Amidamaru for killing him. Tokagero also stole Amidamaru's sword and He took manta hostage. Yoh and Amidamaru finally beat Tokagero with a little of Anna and Ryu's gangs help. He helped Tokagero to finally realize the importants of friendship and stuff like that. Latter on a huge shooting star appears in the sky, Which means it is soon time for the shaman fights to begin in Tokyo.Ryu stays at yoh's house to train to be a Shaman.
When manta and Yoh were comming home from shoppinig one day, they see a snowman. Manta spots a guy next to it. Yoh takes out a fishingrod (i have no idea where it came from.) Hee attached food to the end. He waves it infront of the guy and the guy bites it and Yoh reels him in. He turns out to be Horo Horo. He was selling some goods, when he really had to go to the bathroom.Hhe went and when he came back, his stuff was gone. He looked arround but couldn't find anythinig.
Yoh invites Horo Horo to stay for a while at his house and Horo Horo accepts.When Horo Horo is doing the disihes, he spots a black van that went buy witih a few guys dressed in black. He follow's it. He defets with Yoh them thinking that they were the ones that stole his stuff because he saw them when he was looking. Anna goes to the police and gets his stuff back.
Yoh was wondering how to get into the shaman fights. While he was wandering he ran into a guy named Silva who is one of the 10 Patch shaman that runs the shaman fights. Silva tells yoh to participate in the shaman fights he must have an oracle bell, which he can get from one of the people that runs the shaman fights, But Yoh whould have to hit Silva once with his shaman power to get the oracle bell.
Yoh tried many tecniqes to try to defete Silva but nothing was working. Yoh finaly found a way to get his sword posesed by amidamarus spirit. With this new power Yoh was able to defeat silva and win the oracle bell.
In the Shaman Fight, Yohs first opponent is Horo Horo, A boy who is from an actiant tribe called the Inu that is from hokaido (The same Horo Horo mentioned above). Horo Horo's spirit is Kororo who can poses his snowboard to make it a powerful weapon. Horo Horo wants to Become Shaman King to save the koropokuru that need the Fugi leaves to survive.
The Battle between Horo Horo and Yoh go on with Horo Horo Using his powerful ice power. After Horo Horo used his final attack he finaly gave up. Latter on Yoh and Horo Horo Become good Friends.
The Next fight was against a guy named FaustVIII(8th). Siluva told Anna not to let yoh fight against Faust But since She beleved in yoh, she was determand for him to fight. Yoh Got mad at Faust after Faust started to hurt Manta. Faust used the power of the dead to attack Yoh, but that didn't work. Faust gave up one of his legs to his dead wife Eliza and summoned her to kill yoh.
Faust was strong, He was detumand to kill Yoh after telling Faust that he was just using Eliza as a puppet. Yoh was only able to defete some of Faust over soul, but not all of it. Just when Faust was about to kill Yoh, Ren came in and helps yoh.
After the Fight with Faust Yoh was put in the hospital (I wonder how many times he goes there) Yoh tells Manta that he should go back to America, because he doesn't want him to get hurt. At the airport Manta suddenly changed his mind to go back to America, and leaves the airport to go find Yoh.
While Manta was trying to find yoh, manta finds Ryu and they go to back to Yohs home, where yoh decided to go for a while to train with his grandfather Yohmei. Yohmei told Yoh that he had to stay in a cave for a week to incress his powers. After the week was over, it was time for the shaman fight with Ren.
The Battle Between Yoh and Ren biggins, and both of them are pretty even. Rens Over Soul Power was stronger than yohs (if you want me to be exact, Rens Over Soul Power was at 100, while yohs was only at 30) but Amindamaru was Stronger than Bason, which made the fight even. The fight took a long time (almost all of volume 7, and part of volume 8) As the battle was ending, Both yoh and ren decided to use they're final atacks on eachother, and as a result both loosing theyre oversouls. The fight ends up Being a tie, which made yoh able to compete in the Final Round of the Shaman Fight. The Next fight will be in 3 months.
While The Shaman fight between yoh and Ren went on, Jun was in China talking to her Father, Tao En about Ren and how he only wanted to become shaman king to distroy. She told him to go stop the fight and to help Ren clear the hatred.
As the 3 months passes, Ren Desides to go back to China to go kill his Father, Tao En. When Ren go there, he found out that his sister, Jun (^_^ I love her) also tried to retaliate (not kill him, but she defiyed him). When he tried to attack with Bason, Li Pai Long stopped him and started attacking. It seems that he was taken away from Jun.
Yoh and the others are resting when Bason appears. He begs them to help Ren. Anna said no. THey said that the Tao family is not a family that you should mess with and forbid that Yoh and the others go and help.
Yoh, Horo Horo and Manta snuck out and headed towards the train station. They took the short cut in the grave yard. When they did, there were two shaman buhuddas. They sang songs to truansforn the shaman's spitirts into buhudda's. When they did, Horo, who's spirit was a spirit of the earth was not effected, but was traped in a mrmorial tablet thing. Ryu comes in and saves Yoh and Horo Horo from attacking spirits.
The buhudda's said that they would not bedefeated as long as they have their insturments. So Ryu cuts their insturament's and they run away. Yoh and Manta notice that Ryu's spirit is Togugaro. When Yoh suggests that they need to get Anna to get back Amidamaru and Bason, Anna walks in and brings back the ghosts. She did not stop them from going.
