SHALOMHA RANCH:
Evidence of "Jewiians" on the Big Island
Who's that man behind the shades, wearing shorts and a tallis, smiling as he embraces the Torah?  Sitting in a garden next to a portable Aron Kodesh made of native Hawaiian woods?  Why, it's Paul, having just conducted "hagbah" - the lifting of the opened Torah scroll above his head so that everyone could see the written hebrew that had just been read.  Kona Beth Shalom, the unaffiliated Jewish congregation of Kona, Hawaii, usually holds its Saturday mornng services in the Sacred (Secret) Garden of the Keahou Beach Resort.  You can learn more about Jewish worship on the Big Island by going to the website for KBS at www.konabethshalom.org.  Information about KBS' Jewish cookbook and the local Klezmer band may be found at this link as well.
