This picture was taken the day I met Chester, October 25th 1993. He was skin & bone (you can see his spinal column in this picture), scratched up and bewildered. It didn't take him long to let me know that he belonged with me and we embarked on a ten year relationship that took us from Jersey City, Maplewood and Neshanic Station (all in NJ) to Laupahoehoe, Hawaii. Chester was a "posterdog" for pitbulls, the sweetest and most loving dog you could find in any breed. He was literally scared of his own shadow and he always wanted to kiss the cats. He was like a gentle giant, bumbling and powerful yet playful and friendly. Note that the pupil of his blue eye is red and that of his brown eye is green. It was always an odd sight to see Chester looking up at you at night, with one red eye and one blue eye glistening in your flashlight's ray. |
