| HAIBUN: GOLDEN LOVE |
I awake to gentle rocking of my shoulders. The stirring voice of a little bright eyed creature tickles my ear, ending in a booming plea for my awakening. Startled, I open my travelled eyes and see my youngest daughter standing up school room straight, clutching a handmade card in one hand, presents in the other and looking at me as if it were Christmas Day. I am immediately garnished with her offering, a card with golden writing saying I love you in that sweet child scrawly way. Unfolding the tissue paper, embellished with many laboured moments of mused art, I am graced with scented bath salts for pleasure and chocolates for tastebud delight. She smiles from ear to ear, for she knows I love them both. My older daughter wanders in and gifts me with a unique gift of golden glitter candles in star holders. Not wanting to make a big fuss, she then hands me her heavenly card. She is too cool for sentiment, but her words say it all; I love you Mama, I hope God brings you heaps of happiness. You know what? I declare, God has already brought me happiness, because he gave me you and you. I bundle them up and kiss and cuddle them more. As they titter, their angelic faces join the morning sun and light up the room. Coffee and morning await, two darling givers and chocolate lips |
