Shalom Shops Kmart
Attention Kmart shoppers: Shalom Harlow's in the house. And she knows what she wants. Harlow has no trouble in the sportswear department, grabbing every hippie top she can find, including a white bell-sleeved number ($12.99) and a green silk Indian print ($16.99). "They'd both look great with cargo pants or with a bikini," she tells us. Next, she stops for a black nylon drawstring backpack with Winnie the Pooh on the front ($7.99), and she grows more and more excited when she realizes it folds into itself. "This is perfect for traveling overseas. You know when you go shopping and need an extra bag to get it all home?" A white T-shirt with black branches is also a favorites. "It's very Martine Sitbon," she says. "I'd wear that with leather. I need little anklets and some shoes," she says as we follow her upstairs. Harlow picks some groovy gray men's sneakers with Velcro straps ($19.99) and pairs them with pink anklets. She also grabs some gold hausfrau scuffs. "They're kind of sick, huh?" she says with glee. Back downstairs, Harlow picks some bleach-dyed jeans and some scissors. "These would be great with the waist cut off!" she says. She then scores some acid-green lace boy panties and lets them show over the waistband of the jeans. Harlow, who arrived wearing a mix of Prada, Marc Jacobs and Ann Demeulemeester, is all smiles as she leaves the store with her Kmart goodies.          -By Andrea Linett in Bazaar July 1998
