These animals “bean bags” are very popular playthings and very inexpensive to make. We give you a tracing pattern for the teddy bear version.

Materials
To make the teddy bear measuring approximately 4 in (11 cm) high, you will need:
8 x 8 in (20 x 20 cm) tan synthetic fleece fabric
Thread in tan and black
Scraps of black felt
Black yarn
Dried beans
Tracing paper
Pencil
Brown paper
Piece of ribbon for neck
Trace the pattern from below. Transfer to brown paper and cut out.
Using the paper pattern, cut out two heads and two bodies from fleece.
With right sides together, sew the two body pieces together and the two head pieces together, leaving an unstitched gap on both pieces at the neck, to turn right side out.
Turn the body right side out, using the pencil to push out the arms and legs. Fill the body with just enough beans to give it shape. Be careful not to overfill. Slip stitch the neck to close. Hand stitch along the top of each arm and leg to give shape.
Turn the head right side out and fill with beans. Slip stitich the neck to close. In the same way as for the arms and legs, hand stitch across the base of each ear.
Cut out the eyes, ears, nose and paws from the felt. Catch-stitch them to the face and body to secure. Embroider the remaining features using black yarn and tie the ribbon around the neck.

Enlarge to size needed.
