We have had a lot of interest in being able to color your own fonts on the computer. Inside most programs the only option you have is to change the outline of the font. Only the parts that are black will change colors, you can't fill the empty spaces with a color of your choice. Doing this has mostly been a technique that is done in higher end programs like Adobe Photoshop or Corel Draw, and even with these programs you have to know how to convert it and work with layers in order to color it. But have no fear! In case you don’t have these big expensive programs, I have found a way for you to color fonts quickly and inexpensively yourself. PC computers running Windows come with a program called Paint. You can access Paint in your Start Button Menu. Inside Paint you can type your word and then select the Paint Bucket, this is the Fill tool, and then select a color. Then simply click inside any enclosed area to fill it in. You can change colors and fill in different spaces as often as you like. The only drawback to this is when you save it the only option is to save as a bmp file which can be large in size. This is not a problem if you want to just print it out from there and add it to your project or layout. Otherwise you may need to save it and then import it into a Photo Editing program and re-save it as a jpg or smaller file. And don’t worry my MAC friends, you can color your fonts easily too. I used my AppleWorks program and selected the Painting option. I was able to color my font as I desired using the Paint Bucket tool in the same way as I described above. However, MAC users have a slight advantage. When saving from Appleworks I was given more format options then just the bmp file and I was able to save my completed image as a jpg. And if you don't have Paint for Windows or AppleWorks for Macintosh don't panic yet, almost any painting program should be able to do the same thing. Have fun playing with this and as I always say, check your program’s Help menu for more specific information on how to use it or to see if it has these features. Have fun creating your own computer colored words!
