7.Course Description

Definition, scope, and functions of Environmental Sanitation both in health science aspects and in administrative aspects. Review of processes
and techniques of environmental planning including zoning, permits, management plans, assessment and evaluation methods. Risk, Health, and
economic assessments as the tools for decision-making. Contemporary environmental thinking or paradigm shifts and milestones of sustainability
principle. Ecological Sanitation, Pollution Prevention and Precautionary Principles. Sanitation or Environmental Health Profession and Associations.

8.Course Objectives :

By the end of this course the student will be able to :-

8.1 Understand and describe the meaning, definition and scopes of  Environmental Sanitationrelated to Public Health.

8.2   Describe functions and roles of environment  in health problem models  and  determine  appropriate  preventive strategies.

8.3   Establish Environmental Management System (EMS) in significant settings  as  hospitals, schools, kindergartens, markets etc.

8.4   Describe processes and techniques of environmental health planning compared with EMS ( ISO 14001) and Strategic Planning processes.

8.5 Understand and describe the major roles of international environment-related organizations: UNEP, WHO, FAO, WTO, Worldbank etc., including

       contemporary Environmental Paradigm shifts and the milestones of Sustainability Principle, from RIO-declaration to Johannesberg WSSD.

8.6 Understand and conduct Environmental Program Feasibility Studies , including environmental decision-making tools as Risk Assessment (RA),

           Health Impact Assessment (HIA) and Economic Analyses.

      8.7 Understand Sanitation/Environmental Health Profession Issues and make comparisons of various Environment-related Organizations.
