Course Description
Principle of Environmental Management. Planning Process for Sustainable
Community Development including Localizing Agenda 21. Environmental Risk Assessment for Prioritizing Issues. Environmental Regulations and Laws including Environmental Quality Criteria,Guidelines or Standards.EnvironmentalEconomics, Benefit-Cost Analysis and some Operations Research basics for Environmental Feasibility Studies and Decision-makings.Environmental Sanitation Propramme Planning and Management including Personnel Management. Environmental Health Organizations ,Associations and Professional Credential Trainings. EMS,ISO 14000,HACCP and other Management Tools for Environmental Quality Assurances. Programme Evaluation and Monitoring Systems.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

              Familiarize students with current environmental problems and causes

              Provide students with the theoretical foundation for use of an ecosystem
            approach in environmental management and environmentally-sustainable
            economic development

               Expose students to practical methods which are being used to implement an
            ecosystem approach in environmental management and achieve
            environmentally-sustainable economic development

MAJOR ASSIGNMENTS AND GRADING

Mid-Term: 40%
Final: 60%
Term Project: mandate (extended abstract due on week 13 and presentation given on Week 14)

ATTENDANCE POLICY: Students are expected to attend all classes.  Student attendance
is not a factor in determining a student’s grade.  However, students will be tested on
material covered in all lectures.

STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES: Students are responsible for: attending all classes;
obtaining all handouts distributed in class; and accessing materials from the course
homepage and selected web sites. If a student cannot attend class, it is the student’s
responsibility to get the class notes from fellow students and get handouts from the
professor.
