COURSE OBJECTIVES:
Familiarize students with current environmental problems and causes
Provide students with the theoretical foundation for use of an ecosystem
approach in environmental management and environmentally-sustainable
economic development
Expose students to practical methods which are being used to implement

ecosystem approach in environmental management and achieve
environmentally-sustainable economic development

Term Project: mandate (extended
abstract due on week 13 and presentation given on Week 14)
ATTENDANCE POLICY: Students are
expected to attend all classes. Student attendance
is not a factor in determining
a student’s grade. However, students will be tested on
material covered in all lectures.
STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES:
Students are responsible for: attending all classes;
obtaining all handouts distributed
in class; and accessing materials from the course
homepage and selected web
sites. If a student cannot attend class, it is the student’s
responsibility to get the
class notes from fellow students and get handouts from the
professor.
