7.       Course Description

Community environmental health assessment, environmental monitoring with community involvement,mapping and sanitary survey of various settings.

Application of Ottawa’s Charter and Supportive Environment for Health in Sustainable Development Planning. Community Capacity Building in

Water Supply and Sanitation aspects. Solid Waste Management  System Planning for Rural areas. Appropriate Sanitation Technologies for Rural Communities.

Case-Studies on Sanitation initiatives in developing countries including Participatory Gygiene and Sanitation Transformation (PHAST) and Local Agenda 21

(LA21) implementation

 

8.       Course Objectives :

        By the end of this course the student will be able to :-

                  8.1 describe and discriminate the crucial meanings of environmental sanitation/health , environmental sciences & technology and

                        occupational health including their scopes & functions .

                  8.2 plan and conduct community enviromental health assessment including environmental monitoring, sanitary surveys and health surveillance

                 with community involvement.

                  8.3 describe and apply sustainability  principles(Agenda21,LA21 & WSSD 2002) and health promotion concepts to strategic planning

                         for community  development.

                  8.4 understand and describe the principles of  ecological sanitation,including Bellagio’s principle and other international sanitation programme

                  evaluations.

                  8.5  collect,disseminate and educate people with the subject matters of topical environmental sanitation issues ,including safe water supply and sanitation,

                          solid waste management planning and appropriate technologies .

                  8.6  discuss  and recommend appropriate options for community health problem solving in various Case Studies .
