Death and Rebirth

BY KAYLA BABOOLAL

Initiation of the Wounded Healer begins....

My first summer in Canada, all of three years old, I was at a cabin up north with my family.  My sister and I stood on the dock of a shallow river scooping sand into pails.  Being a little shorter than her, I reached in a little further than I should have, and ended up embraced by the lady of the lake.  When I was pulled out of the water, I was dead. No pulse, and white (hard to accomplish for a girl of colour!).  I was revived by my father (karmic debt number 1 paid).  I have since experienced two additional near-death experiences, and am grateful to have answers to the reason for these occurrences.  If you have had similar experiences, I hope that the information within this site may provide you with some answers as well.

There are several forms of Shamanic practice, crossing time and cultures.  Most have several commonalities, which will be discussed under the Story of the Chosen.  As times changed, the role of the Shaman has too.  While some still use their skills to help and heal their community, it has now come to also represent a personal spiritual quest.  Ideally, this quest will help provide you with tools for self-healing, which can then be returned to Spirit, by assisting others.

Most who will work with spirits are usually chosen/or chose their walk on this earth plane before they enter the womb of their mother.  Historically, those chosen to walk a Healer/Spirit walkers life suffer a Near Death Experience or are at one point clinically dead and revived.

My near death experiences have shown me the importance of self-sacrifice.  This should be done first to Spirit.  Within my online Book of Passages you will find a simple dedication ceremony, which revolves around the concept of ritual death and rebirth.  While I hope you find inspiration in it, I encourage you to formulate your own ritual.  I also encourage you to do this alone.  This journey is yours.  Honour the process.  It is not a party, it is a sombre commitment and should not be entered into lightly.
