DISTRICT GEARED UP TO CONDUCT ELECTION;

The district administration is geared up to conduct local body elections in a smooth manner.

111 polling booths are organized in the district to hold election for three Town Panchayaths at Virajpet, Kushalnagar and Somwarpet and City Municipal Council at Madikeri. Madikeri has 71 constituencies, Somwarpet 11, Virajpet 16 and Kushalnagar 13.

According to the Deputy Commissioner Niranjan, 555 employees are pressed to election service and about ten percent officials are kept as reserve. Field marshall cariappa college premises is selected as the Mustering and D mustering centre at madikeri.Taluk Office at Virajpet is chosen as mustering centre at Virajpet and Town panchayath centre as D Mustering centre. Taluk office at Kushalnagar is the mustering centre and D Chennappa hall at Somwarpet is the mustering and D Mustering centre for Somwarpet.

Root Officials are appointed to all the centers to be in charge of the arrangements and Tahasildars will be in charge of conducting the election.

The election counting and result will be announced on 30th after 10 p.m.

Meanwhile, identification cards for the voters are made compulsory and they have to produce either election identification card or driving license, ration card, telephone bill etc.

The process of briefing the officials and supplying materials was done today in Taluk head quarters by the respective tahasildars.

Police conducted special meeting and discussed about the security arrangements. Additonal forces are posted in sensitive areas for the smooth conduct of the election. Deputy commissioner Niranjan and Superintendent of police Trilokchandra are confident that the elections in Kodagu will go on smoothly.
