CAUVERY “THIRTHODBHAVA”ON OCTOBER 18THMadikeri Oct. 23 “Thirthodbhava” at Thalacauvery, the birth place of river cauvery occurs on October 18th. The “Muhurtham” transpire at 8.20 A.M. on that day in “Thulaanthya” “Lagnam” as per astrological calculations. It is the time when Cauvery moves upwards in a small pond called “Kundike”.The archaks perform special poojas and they don’t allow the water to overflow from the “Kundike” tofollow the tradition. The belief reveals bad affects to the people in the region if the water overflows. The archaks lift the water when the water level reaches the top portion and they pour the thirtha on the surrounding devotees who will be rushing to take holy bath in the bathing pond.This is the first “Thirthodbhava after the renovation of the piligrim centre by the state Govt. through the Cauvery development authority. The renovation works at Thalacauvery is completed, but the work is going on at Bhagamandala . Bhagamandala is the piligrim centre situated beneath 6 miles before Thalacauvery .The Cauvery,Sujyothi and Kannike are the three rivers joins here and so the place is called “Sangama” piligrim centre. River Kannike flows from the opposite direction and joins Cauvery here and river Sujyothi emerges in the middle of “Sangama” and merges with cauvery as a tributery.The Cauvery festival starts from Bahgamandala. The Virajpet kodava samaj and the kodagu unit of Hindu Jagarana Vedike organizes mass feeding to the piligrims on that a day at Bhgamandala. The kodagu Ekikarana ranga orgonisation, The Mandya “Anna Santharpana Samithi” and the Tamilnad Algappan Chettiar’s trust separately orgonise the mass feeding at Thalacauvery The.Deputy Commissioner K.R.Nirnajan conducted a special meeting at Bhagamandala and chalked out the programmes and arrangements at the piligrim centres. Different sub committees are formed headed by public representatives and officials to take care of various works during the festival. Temporary toilets will be established at Bhagamandala and Thalacauvery by the health department. Cleanliness responsibility is entrusted to Bhagamnndala panchayath,. K.S.RTC will provide 30 special buses on that day-assured the depot manager venugopal. Permits will be given-said the RTO Gayathri Devbi.The cultural programmes will be arranged by ther kannada culture department-said the assistant director Damodar.. Arrack is prohibited on oct. 18th in surrounding places. The ban of mutton, fish sales starts from 5th October in Bhgamandala Hobli area till the festival day. C.C.T.V took the work of live relay through plasma screen in Thalacauvery to enable all the devotees to witness the “Thirthodbhava”. The holy religious performances starts from Sept 29th itself. Filling of paddy in the “Pathaya” at Bhagamandala begins from Sept. 27th. “Aajna Muhurtham”, “Akshaya pahre, and other religois performances follows..
