TWO ARRESTED IN DOWRY HARASSMENT CASE;Madikeri October 30, 2007 Virajpet police yesterday arrested two persons in connection with a dowry case and remanded them to judicial custody. The arrest was made in connection with the death of one Vimalakshi of Kedamallur village near Virajpet on this 26th. She committed suicide by consuming poison. Her brother jayaram had lodged complaint with the police, stating that her husband Purushottam father in law Uthappa and mother in law Parvathy were harassing her to get dowry many since a year, after she was married a year ago. Police arrested Uthappa and Purushottam yesterday and produced them before court. They were remanded to judicial custody for fifteen days. SENE TO HOLD PROTEST;Cauvery Sene will hold protest in front of the deputy Commissioners office on November 12th to protest against agriculture lands in Kodagu being converted into resorts. Convenor of the Sene, Ravi Chengappa stated in a press conference here yesterday that the agriculture lands in Kodagu are converted to build resorts, causing grave concern. Kodagu will lose its identity if the same trend continues and the Deputy Commissioner should stop converting the lands, he urged. Ravi Chengappa alleged that the deputy commissioner speaks of protecting the environment, but in action he is supporting conversions. He gave example of Tiger resort coming up near Kadagadal and said that officials are budging to the pressure of outsiders in converting hundreds of acres of agriculture lands in Kodagu. MUSLIMS HOLD RALLY AGAINST MODI;Different Muslim organizations, led by Kodagu Forum for Dignity held a rally against Gujarath chief minister Narendra Modi accusing him of responsible for the carnage of Muslims during 2002. Slogans were shouted against Modi and Hindu organizations throughout the procession that went in the main streets. People gathered in the Fort premises and speeches accusing Hindu organizations were delivered by various leaders. The leaders warned MLA Nagaraj Shetty against his statement to convert Karnataka into Gujrath. Moulvi Abdul Hakim called upon all the religions to develop brotherly hood and demolish the activities of fascists. President of the Sc St association, Govindappa spoke on the occasion and said that Muslims and Sc St are looked down in India. A memorandum was submitted to the Deputy Commissioner to be forwarded to the president. VHP URGES TO BAN KFD;The Vishwa Hindu parishath has said in a press release that the government should ban Kodagu Forum for dignity. It has urged the deputy commissioner to initiate action against the leaders who held rally yesterday. They stated that highly damaging and defaming slogans and accusations were made against Hindus to provoke them. The VHP said that the Forum is a new name for the banned Sunni organization and they are any day dangerous to the society. Spokesman for BJP, M.B.devaiah has said that the Forum should be banned and the Muslim organizations should not encourage it. |
