MLAs’ CALL TO BOYCOTT RAJYOTSAV;Madikeri October 24, 2007 Members of the legislative assembly, B.A.Jivijaya and K.G.Bopaiah have called upon the people of Kodagu to Boycott Rajyotsav and participate in the Bandh call given by Kodagu Existence Committee on November one. Talking to scribes yesterday after the Zilla Panchayath meeting, the elected representatives stated that it is high time that the people of Kodagu show to the government that they are being neglected by it. They stated that the government should implement the 1964 land revenue act. He recalled that as a revenue minister, M.P.Prakash had promised to solve the issue and did not do it. Earlier, the J.H.Patel government had also issued a false promise to implement Lokare report. He called upon the people to support the bandh call forgetting political or any other differences. The representatives also said that they are not demanding a separate state. But the states of affairs are pushing them to such a position and government alone is responsible for it. They also threatened that activities of Naxalites to enter Kodagu is not off. People of Chikmagalore are favouring a Malnad state and they are all in touch with them. We will hold a discussion with the former minister M.C.Nanaiah, they opined. They have also appealed to government officials and students not to take part in the Utsav. Former MLA Appach Ranjan and M.B.devaiah were present. PRESIDENT GIVEN POWER TO FORM SUB COMMITTEES;The members of the Zilla Panchayath unanimously agreed to entrust the duty of electing chairmans to the different sub committees. Earlier, the meeting witnessed opposition to electing chairmans by only the president. Member V.P.Shashidar said that it is illegal to select rather than elct. The CEO Sundar said that the committee has to be formed unanimously since progress of the district depends upon the committee. MLAs B.A.Jivijaya and K.G.Bopaiah appealed to members to accept the decision to empower president to form the committee and look only at the view point of development of the district. Member Raja Rao said that even the last sub committees were also formed by the then president only and the same system could be followed. CENTRE NODS FOR WATER FROM HARANGI;MLA B.A.Jivijaya has said that the centre has okayed a proposal to draw water to Somwarpet from harangi reservoir. He annopunced that Somwarpet town will get 0.67 MLD of drinking water and five other villges will get around MLD of drinking water, once the scheme is implemented. The state secretariat is requested to prepare a report immediately, Jivijaya said. He also disclosed that the fund from centre has already released and the state government has to release its share to implement the project. COFFEE GROWERS MEET AT CHIKMAGALORE;State coffee growers meet will be held at Chikmagalore on this 27th and leaders like H.D.Degowda are expected to participate in it. President of the Somwarpet Coffee growers association, Suresh said that the meet was organized under the leadership of president of the Karnataka Planters Federation, Attikatte Jagannath. Suresh told at Somwarpet that the concerned elected representatives will all participate in the meet. |
