SAINIK SCHOOL INAUGURATED AT KODAGU;

The much awaited Sainik School in Kodagu was inaugurated yesterday by MLA B.A.Jivijaya. This will be the second Sainik School in Karnataka, first being the school at Bijapur.

Addressing the gathering at Kudige, where the school is situated, Jivijaya disclosed that the state government has released rupees 25 crores for the purpose. Road to the school will also be formed at a cost of rupees forty lakhs, he assured.

Principal Col. Narahari spoke on the occasion and said that the school has the capacity to house 120 students. It is started with 80 students now and the strength would be increased in the next season.

SAHITYA PARISHATH TO SUPPORT NOVEMBER BANDH;

District Kannada Sahitya Parishath will lend its support to Boycott Rajyotsava in Kodagu.

Addressing a function, the president T.P.Ramesh told here that the Parishath will support boycotting of Rajyotsava by different organizations. Kodagu existence committee and other organizations have called for boycotting Rajyotsava on November first to protest against the government apathy towards Kodagu. Former MLC A.K.Subbaiah, Former Minister M.C.Nanaiah and other leaders have called for Kodagu bandh and to boycott Rajyotsava celebration as government did not with draw two circulars harming Jamma land holders, in spite of the Chief Ministers instruction.

Meanwhile, Ramesh said that the Sahitya Parishath will lay foundation stone to construct a building of its own by end of December. He also said that the Parishath has a target to enroll one thousand members by December end and it has about 660 members at present. He appealed to office bearers to attend all India Kannada Sahitya Sammelan to be held at Udipi on December 12.

Contradicting the president’s statement to support Kodagu bandh call on November first, secretary Shamshuddin appealed to members to celebrate it in a novel way by hoisting the flag.

The meeting felicitated the members of Parishath who won in different elections.
