ATTEMPT TO KILL A FOREST GUARD;Madikeri October 17, 2007 An attempt to murder an forest guard was revealed at Bhagamandala and a case is registered in this regard. Forest staff found guard Bhavani Shankar, serving at Karike forest range, lying in a pool of blood. He was lying unconsciously at Anepare forest guest house with a deep cut in his throat. He was immediately shifted to Mangalore hospital and is undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit. A case was registered and investigation is on to find the culprits. Possibility of the crime committed by smugglers cannot be ruled out, according to a source. Large scale smuggling of valuable trees takes place in this area directly under the nose of forest officials. SLEUTHS SEIZE FLOATING WOOD;Forest sleuths led by range forest officer Chinnappa seized 16 valuable wooden logs being floated by smugglers in Harangi waters. Chinnappa said that the wooden logs valued in lakhs of rupees were stored at Harangi backwaters at Kallur near Kushalnagar. The smugglers intended to float them to seventh Hoskote the hub of smugglers. He said that a case is registered and action would be taken to trace and book the culprits. CONGRESS CALLS TO PREPARE FOR ELECTION;District congress Committee president Veena Achaiah has called upon her members to prepare for the election. Addressing a party meeting at Virajpet yesterday, she said that though the party could not make remarkable achievements in the last Panchayath elections, its members have received more votes. She predicted that the state election is down the lane and members should try to organize the party in grass root level to win the election. Zilla Panchayath president Deergakeshi Shivanna urged the members to put in sincere efforts to build the party. M.K.Poovaiah, taluk president Subramani and others spoke on the occasion. |
