‘DAKSHINA KASHI’ READY FOR ‘TEERTODBAVA’Madikeri October 16 The ‘Dakshina Kashi’ famed Talacauvery is all set to welcome pilgrims for the holy Teertodhbava on this eighteenth. The Teertodbava will take place at the auspicious hour, 8.30 in the morning. Though October 17th is the usual date of Teertodbava each year, the change in the position of stars pushed the date to 18th. Teertodbava had taken place on the nights of 17th in the previous years. Pilgrims dare scorching heat, pouring rain or even pitch dark corridors to be present on the occasion and take a dip. Pilgrims will come mainly from Kerala, Tamilanadu, Mandya and other places. Elaborate arrangements are made at Bhagamandala and Talacauvery to control the rush during Jaatra. The district administration and temple committees have held special meetings. The rituals began yesterday with Bolladka Appaji and Kodi madappa pouring rice into ‘akshaya patra’ in the morning. The ‘Bhandara’ being kept at Bhagandeshwara temple, Bhagamandala was carried to Talacauvery today after performing pooja. The structures at talacauvery and Bhagamandala are ready with paints and white wash. Arrangements are made with separate halls for the pilgrims to change their dresses. Toilets are built. Steps are erected for the climb of Brahmagiri hill. Parking places are arranged. Tempoprary stalls have also come up in the area and business has already begun with tourists pouring in each day. KSRTC and private bus owners have organized special busses to Talacauvery. Police held a special meeting to discuss the law and order positions. Superintendent of police Dr.Trilokchandra has said that DAR, KSRP and other police troops would be deployed to provide security as hundreds of people rush to the place on 17th and 19th. Around 460 home guards and lady police will also be pressed to service. Meanwhile, the deputy commissioner has issued orders prohibiting sale of liquor around Talacauvery and Bhagamandala on 17th and 18th. DC Niranjan and CEO Sundar have visited talacauvery a couple of days ago and witnessed the progress. “SUNDAY INDIAN’ TO ASSIST SMALL NEWSPAPERS;The Sunday Indian newspaper has come farward to assist the small newspapers in the state and it will begin its programme from kodagu, said the editor Satish Chapparike. Inaugurating the annual day celebration of the Patrika Bhavan Trust, satish Chapparike told here yesterday that the local journalists are still maintaining ethics. He regretted that the media today is in confusion whether to protect the interest of the society or its own. He said that the existence of large newspapers depends on its marketing ability today. Whereas, the small newspapers are yet to be polluted, unlike the state and national newspapers. He opined that the TV media is moving aimlessly and is interested in producing news rather than covering news. The breaking news in some of the media is highly unreliable and misleading, he regretted. He said that TV media is definetly competiting with the newspaper media today. Addressing the gathering, G.Rajendra said that the newspapers have to be on the toe today to face the challenges. Managing Trustee T.P.Ramesh spoke on the occasion and said that journalism in Kodagu has seen 123 years. President of the journalists association Shashidar and president of the press Club, H.T.Anil spoke on the occasion. |
