LAD FROM MANGALORE DROWNS AT ABBI;

Madikeri october 14

A first PU student from Mudippu Jawahar nehru Vidyalaya in mangalore got drowned in Abbi falls here today.

The Victim, Prem Sagar, 17 had come here with three other school mates for national hockey selection. The unlucky Sagar was lucky enough to get selected for the nationals along with another friend.

A joy jump into the Abbi water, where swimming is prohibited costed him his life.

he visited Abbi falls intrekking from navodaya Vidyalaya at gaalibeedu where the hockey selection was going on along with fifteen other students and a coach. The others had hailed from Andra pradesh, kerala, Shimoga, Bangalore and other places.

A current pulled Prem Sagar to death fold in front of his friends who tried in vain to save him. The incident occured around 12 noon. the body was recovered by 2.30.

The body is kept at mortuary and words are sent to his parents at Mangalore.

KARAGOTSAVA BEGINS;

The Madikeri Dasara had a colourful opening yesterday with the start of ‘Karaga’.

Four ‘Karagas’ representing the four main temples of spiritual significance, locally from Kundurumotte, Dandinamariamma, Kanchi Kamakshi and Kote Mariamma temples set out together from Bannimantap after a pooja.

Zilla Panchayath president Deerga Keshi Shivanna, Working president of the Dasara samity M.B.Devaiah, honorary president G.Chidvilas, secretary K.M.Ganesh and others were present.

The Karaga was taken out in a procession.

The bearers of Karaga will visit all the houses in the town for next nine days.

Cultural programmes will begin today at Cauvery kalakshetra.

LOKAYUKTA HOLDS ENQUIRY;

Lokayukta superintendent of Police Eshwara Chandra Sagar conducted enquiry into the fraud case of Municipal Employees Association here yesterday.

Talking to scribes he said that the records are clear to prove that the office bearers of the association have cheated the D group employees of lakhs of rupees.

D group employees received lakhs of rupees from the government after the Supreme Court made their posts permanent. The association demanded forty percent commission from the employees who are 92 in number in the district.

31 employees from Madikeri and 15 from Somwarpet were cheated by taking their signature on blank cheques.

Eshwara Chandra Sagar said that a separate enquiry would be held at Somwarpet town Panchayath shortly.

RECORDS DESTROYED IN FIRE;

An accidental fire inside the president’s chamber of City Municipal Council here at night destroyed records.

According to the commissioner Raya, short circuit caused fire inside the cabin and some of the records were gutted. However, fire engine brigade extinguished the fire which would have otherwise destroyed all the records.

While the officials were stating the accident was caused due to short circuit, people suspect it as a deliberate attempt to destroy the records since the enquiry is going on into the fraud committed by local employees.

RAMSETHU WALK;

Hindu organizations led by Vishwa Hindu Parishath yesterday took out a march protesting against the Ramsethu project in Chennai.

The leaders led by MLA K.G.Bopaiah went in a procession and began to collect signatures from people who oppose the movement.
