PREPARATION FOR DUSSERA AT GONICOPPAL;Madikeri October 11, 2007 Gonicoppa is getting ready to throw a gala Dussera procession. Celebrating Dussera since 29 years, Gonicoppal is preparing to celebrate Dussera in a grand manner. A Meeting was called under the chairmanship of working president of Dussera samity, M.K.Thomas and programmes were chalked out for the nine day celebrations. Sports for public and cultural programmes are arranged from tomorrow. M.K.Nanjappa will hoist the flag tomorrow to inaugurate the sports in school grounds. Ten decorated mantapams will be taken out in procession on the final day. Prizes would be distributed to shops and vehicles for best decoration and mantapams will also fetch first, second and third prizes. The members decided to invite three MLAs and MLC to the function as special invitees. Secretary B.N.Prakash gave details about the programme and proposed vote of thanks. JUDICIARY COMMITTED TO PROTECT MENTALLY CHALLENGED;Judiciary is committed to protect mentally challenged in the society, said civil first division court judge M.Samshi. Inaugurating the week long legal camp at Hospital premises at Somwarpet, Samshi said that law supporting the mentally challenged was brought to force by British in India and even the central government has also introduced law supporting their interest. He appealed to the society to support them and opined that it is the duty of the judiciary to protect properties belonging to them. The judge said that there are only two hospitals in the state dealing with the cases of mentally challenged, and more such hospitals should come up. Addressing the gathering Dr.krishnananda said that all government hospitals will have a separate department to treat mentally challenged, in the near future. DySP Suresh Kumar stated that law cannot bind mentally retarded when they commit a crime. Such persons should only be given better treatment to come over the disability. President of the BAR association, Abhimanyukumar presided over the function. |
