MADIKERI GEARS UP FOR DUSSERA;

Madikeri is gearing up for the famous Dussera celebrations, known as second best after Mysore.

A meeting was held by the president of the committee, M.B.Devaiah yesterday and committees and officials were briefed about their responsibilities. He stated that a permanent source of income should be created to celebrate Dussera each year as they cannot depend only upon public donation. He said that the government has sanctioned rupees fifteen lakhs for the celebration.

Addressing the gathering, working president G.Chidvilas urged the PWD to repair the roads and fill pot holes in the town. KPTCL was requested to supply uninterrupted power during the nine day celebration. Police were requested to provide the emergency telephone numbers as people who throng to witness the festival can use on emergency.

Public toilets, drinking water, sanitary care, round the clock medical service were some of the points given to officials to arrange during the nine day festival

Instructions were issued to decorate the government and private buildings.

General Secretary K.M.Ganesh, B.S.Mohan, honorary presidents V.P.Suresh, B.K.Krishna Shetty, T.M.Aiyappa, B.S.Prakash, Treasurer Chummi Devaiah, deputy Secretary of Zilla Panchayath, Julfikar and others were present.

CALL TO DECLARE KODAGU AS FLOOD PRONE;

A meeting of the planters held at Srimangala yesterday urged the government to consider Kodagu as flood prone.

Planters of South Kodagu met yesterday and decided to hold united fight against the government apathy and place their demand. They urged that Kodagu should be declared as flood prone.

President of the Growers association, Katti Mandaiah alleged that Loan waiver is not implemented in the district and even Vidarbha Package is not effectively carried out.

Honourary president M.W.Aiyappa stated that the excess rainfall has resulted in huge crop loss and nobody is fighting for the betterment of growers. He sought support from people and other organizations.

Kalimada Thammu Muthamma, president of the Srimangala growers association presided over the meeting.

RAILWAY SURVEY GETS A NOD;

Railway minister for state, R Velu told here that the centre has nodded for the survey to begin to link Kodagu to railways.

Velu, who was on a private visit to Kodagu met press for a while. He stated that Kodagu would be linked to K.R.Nagar and the survey would begin from K.R.Nagar to Kushalnagar. However he did not specify the period of survey and implementation plans.

Velu opined that the railway project could be completed early if the state government takes more interest. He also disclosed that private participation will also be encouraged in the project.

Earlier the minister visited Talacauvery and performed pooja.
