CHEATING IN PAYMENT EVOKES PROTEST;Madikeri October 6, 2007 Cheating in the payments due to class 4 employees in City Municipal Council yesterday evoked protest. Family members of an employee, Hanumanthappa staged protest with other employees and alleged that Hanumathappa is being cheated continuously by officials, who are misusing his illiteracy. An illiterate, hanumanthappa, working in CMC for the past 22 years said that officials are not paying him the salary prescribed by the government. But hios thumb impressions are taken on blank papers. The family members also displayed a pass book where amount was deposited and withdrawn without their notice. They suspected a foul play as rupees nine thousand was drawn by someone on first of October. The bank managers said they are unaware of the fact that who drew the amount. Even the accounts in charge and commissioner of CMC refused to say any thing about the withdrawal. O far, Hanumanthappa has received only rupees thirty three thousand in the form of salary, whereas his colleagues have drawn more than rupees two lakhs in 22 years. CMC officials are stating that Hanumanthappas service book is also not available and the same got burnt. Few others employees also complained of fraud. The Commissioner Raya received a written complaint from the family members of Hanumanthappa and assured to investigate the matter. CENTRAL TEAM VISITS RAIN DAMAGE AREAS;A central team yesterday paid a visit to all the rain affected areas in the district. Deputy Commissioner Niranjan and other officials accompanied the team led by Central Joint secretary Bhamathi, D.R.Gurumukhi and others. The team witnessed land slides in and around Madikeri, napoklu, Bhagamandala and other places. They also witnessed the crop damages and road, bridge damage. Kodagu had incurred huge loss due to heavy rainfall which has subsided only since a week or so. YOUTH ASSOCIATIONS RECEIVE FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE;About thirty youth associations in the district received rupees five thousand each from the government through Youth Service and Nehru Yuvaka Kendra. The government has released this amount to youth organizations, looking at their performance. It was first of its kind assistance provided to encourage youth after the former president of India, Dr.Abdul kalam laid eleven point programme to Karnataka during his visit to the state. Seven Youth leaders also received rupees ten thousand each and they were also felicitated for their achievements. Inaugurating the district youth award distribution ceremony, joint editor of Shakthi, B.G.Anantha shayana said that youth should not waste their energy to serve in a restricted square. They should break the barriers and see that their energy produces peace and harmony in a larger sense. He regretted that elders are put in Ashrams in India in spite of having money and children. Elders are considered as Gods in Indian culture and it is a cultural collapse to send them to Ashrams, he said. Presiding over the function, president of the Zilla panchayath, Deergakeshi Shivanna opined that youth should strive to strengthen the country. She said that the youth associations should become more active in rural areas for the villages to benefit and progress. Sahitya parishath president T.P.Ramesh, youth service officer Suresh kandavar, Vishnumurthy from Nehru Yuvaka Kendra, ZP member rajarao and others spoke on the occasion. |
