MOB ATTACKS A HOUSE, THREATENS ALLEGED CONVERTERS;Madikeri October 3, 2007 Deputy Commissioner Niranjan and Superintendent of police Trilokchandra visited a house at Kodlipet yesterday on a complaint of mob attack on Sunday. A complaint was lodged with the Kodlipet police stating that a mob of 22 people attacked the house of one Chrian. A mass prayer was going on in the house and the mob alleged that Cherian and another Person Binny George were indulging in converting Hindus to Christianity. The duo was beaten along with one Freddie and Nagamma. They were accused of involved in conversion activity since years. Around fifty people were found inside the house during the attack and they were all chased away. SP and DC visited the spot and spoke to people. Few of them said that they were not forcibly converted and they accepted the faith as some of them were healed. One Devaraju was arrested in this connection and while police are looking for others. KUNJIKUTTY SURRENDERS;Mustafa alias Kunjikutty, for whom police were looking for in a threaten to murder case surrendered before police yesterday. Kunjikutty had threatened to kill a planter Ravi Pemmaiah last month at Seventh Hoskote as he demanded action against timber smugglers with the forest officials. Protests were organized to demand the immediate arrest of the accused and deadlines were served for the arrest. The accused who was at large surrendered before Sunticoppa police yesterday and will be produced before police. Planters round Sunticoppa and Kushalnagar had staged protest before police station demanding nabbing of smugglers. They alleged that valuable trees are illegally cut and transported by smugglers directly under the nose of police and forest sleuths. It can be recalled that rosewood was smuggled out of the estate belonging to Cricketer Robin Uthappa from Sunticoppa. CHAIN OF THEFTS INVITES PROTEST;Chain of thefts yesterday invited public wrath against police at Srimangala. One hour bandh was observed and police inefficiency in providing security to people was condemned. Public went in a procession and demanded service from police who have allegedly become useless in providing security. The protest was organized as five shops were burgled in the small town on the night of Monday. Shops belonging to prabhakarand Devaki, a mediacal shop and an electrical shop were burgled. Cash and a tape recorder was stolen. Police promised action. |
