HUTHRI CELEBRATED IN KodaguMadikeri Nov. 26 Huthri festival was clebrated in various places of Kodagu. Madikeri Kodava Samaj clebrated the Huthri in lower kodava Samaj premisesThe cut paddy sheaths were brought from the paddy fields and pooja was performed. In Kushalnagar Kodava Samaj premises Bacharanianda Appanna and others performend Cauvery pooja.They cut the sheaths in the paddy field near Kodava Samaj.Crackers were burst. Kushalnagar Gowda samaj also celebrated Huthri festival.Gowda youth association, women associations also joined. Procession went in the town. The team performed pooja at Ganapathi temple, Kushalnagar. Traditional performances were conducted at Baimana Vishwanath’s paddy field. Kodava National Council (CNC }also celebrated Huthri in a different manner.The traditionally dressed CNC members offered rice to Guru Karanas and then went to the paddy field chanting Dudikot pat and carrying guns.CNC leader N.U.Nachappa suggested to the Kodava community fellow men to perform Huthri during day time. He told cutting the sheaves during night time is not advisable. The original traditional system had the performance during day time and that has been changed to night as a wrong practice-he said. In mayamudi, and Dhanugala villages in South Kodagu Huthri was celebrated in a special manner. These villages have the history of conducting the festival since 1812.During the King Veerajendra’s regime also Huthri was being celebrated here. In the centre of the paddy field a big wooden poll will be erected. That will be decorated with plantain, Mango and Ashwatha leaves.This is called “Meti” During the harvesting season this poll is helpful to protect the crop. The birds will sit on the poll and watch the insects, rats etc moving on the ground. and they hunt them for food which will automatically protect the crop from pests. A trust has been formed to continue the performance every year. PHOTO; HUTHRI CLEBRATIONS BY CNC JDS WORKERS JOIN BJPMadikeri Nov. 26 Many JDS workers joined BJP during a conference held at Kudige near Kushalnagar. The state BJP Yuva Morcha president Girish Mattannanavar received the incomers and welcomed them to BJP.The JDS workers from Kudige, Chikkathur, Alwara and Harangi villages joined BJP in large number. While speaking Mattannavar opined that the youth has to take responsibility of shouldering national interest. He called to fulfill the dreams of BJP leader Atal Bihari Vajpeyi.The Yuva Morcha is organizing village level meetings to alert the youth in nook and corner areas he told. Chief Guest ex. M.L.A Appachu Ranjan told that the cheating leaders of other party may loose their existence itself. People will teach them a lesson- he warned. The District BJP president Sunil Subramani, state Yuva morcha general Secreatry Robin Devaiah, Kodagu Yuva Morcha president Rajiv Bopaiah and others were present |
