LOW QUALITY FOOD GRAINS:PEOPLE PROTESTMadikeri Nov. 17 The Anganavadi centre at Neerukolli village near here has been recognized as fair price shop centre by the District Revenue authorities. All the food grains provided by the Food and Civil supplies department for the poor persons who are the card holders are being misused here. No proper distribution is maintained. The supplied materials are of low quality.-villagers allege. They protested against the supply of insect found grains. The grains supplied for pregnant woman could not be used for food preparation. The rice has the bad smell and spoiled. The women self help group members and other youths dragged away the spoiled food grains from the godowns. The group also staged Dharna in front of the Anganavadi centre at Neerukolli. Kadagadal Panchayath president Vinodkumar and others who visited the spot demanded the arrival of officers immediately. When the project officer Jayasheela visited, thje enraged agitators patted him and the vehicle driver. The agitators allege that the CDPO is neglecting the public complaint and not at all responded. They surrounded and blocked the CDPO and demanded the arrival of concerned officials. The Zilla Panchayath deputy secretary Zulfikar Ali Ulla who rushed to the spot assured that action will be taken against the Anganavadi worker and also against the CDPO. Then the agitators disbursed. PHOTO:SPOILED FOOD GRAINS FREE EYE CAMP AT ASHWINI HOSPITALMadikeri Nov. 17 The 21st free eye camp was inaugurated at Ashwini hospital by the Zilla Panchaayath CEO Sundar.The camp is conducted by Ashwini hospital,the district blind removal association, the coorg foundation, Bangalore’s Giants group of garden city, Rotary misty hills, Madikeri, Lions club, Madikeri and the district health and family welfare department jointly. The eye patients are selected at various centers including Periapatna, Sulya and various parts of Kodagu. More than 240 patients are brought in the orgonisations vehicles and are camped here with food and shelter. The operations, inserting of lenses are also done freely. The camp will end on 19th. Further treatment afterwards will be provided in the hospital. If required the patients will be sent to Bangalore in future. During last 20 camps more than 30 thousand patients were tested. More than 2,500 patients regained their eye sights through these camps. Last year also 236 Patients were freely operated. The eye specialists like Dr. Shivaprasad from Hassan,Dr. Chandrashekhar from Bangalore and Dr. Shridhar and Dr. Appu Rao Pai are conducting the tests and operations freely. The required lenses and other things will be provided by the orgonisations. Another appreciable act by the Doctors is they donate their personal contributions to the camp. HUDIKERI VILLAGERS PROTESTMADIKERI Nov. 17 The Hudikeri villagers protested against the bad condition of PWD roads from Hudikeri to Shrimangala.The heavy vehicles are collapsing in the big pot holes exists in the centre of the road. One lorry was lifted through GCB.The viallagers demanded the immediate repair. Two Lorries were jammed in the trench like holes yesterday and the traffic was affected. Even, the school going children waited for hours till road clearance.The PWD officials assured the repairs to the road within 15 days and the agitators temporarily withdrew the agitation.
