HUSBAND MURDERS WIFE;

Kambiranda Ganapathy, an agriculturist allegedly killed his wife on the night of fourteenth at Bittangala, near Virajpet.

According to police, Ganapathy went to his house on the said day fully drunk and attacked his wife Gombe with a bill hook. Chpping her to death, he escaped from the scene. Gombe died on the spot. Ganapathys brother Madan was also with him at the time of killing.

The reason for the murder is related to property. Since Ganapathy was a known drunkard, his father had transferred his land in the name of his wife Gombe. Ganapathy was often raising quarrel over this issue with his wife and this went to extreme of killing on fourteenth.

RINK HOCKEY INAUGURATED;

The two day Kodava Family Rink Hockey was inaugurated yesterday with about 80 tems waiting to participate in the queue.

Inaugurating the hockey at GMP school grounds at Devanageri near Virajpet, Mukkatira Sunil Nanaiah said that the Devanageri sports club has united families in villages by conducting sports since ten years. Rink hockey is being conducted since three years.

Presiding over the inaugural function, president of the Chembebellur gram Panchayath, Mukonda Shashi Subramani said that particular families can have two guest players from other families in their teams. So as to provide opportunities to certain families which cannot for teams of their own.Puggera Viju nanjappa was on the dais. Puggera Keshu karumbaiahcompered the programme.

The inaugural match was played between Ichanda and Nadetira family teams. Ichanda team won the match with a thumping 16 goals against 3 from the Nandetira.

INTER STATE BIKE LIFTERS HELD;

Police arrested two culprits and seized five motor bikes stolen by them.

The District crime branch police arrested Poyyakaranda Saadali from Emmemadu and M.M.Altaf alias Mohammed Khan from Cheriaparambu in connection with the inter state bike lifting and selling, yesterday. The duo was caught as they produced fake documents to police at Madikeri during a routine check. They admitted that they stole the bike they were riding yesterday from masjid at Emmemadu and said that they still have more bikes hidden at their houses.

Police found four more bikes from different makes stolen from different states.

A case is registered.

POLICE SEIZE KODAVA ACADEMY RECORDS;

Town police have seized certain books AND RECORDS FROM Kodava Academy office here as a taluk Panchayath member Addanda Cariappa has lodged a complaint of misappropriation and irregularities at the academy.

Allegations of misappropriation and irregularity were continuously being showered against the chairmen Dotty Poovaiah from different organizations. Printing of raffles with a face value of rupees one thousand to raise fund for the Kodava Vishwa Mela has raised controvercy and it is deemed as illegal. However, Dotty Poovaiah supported her decision to print the ticket in the interest of Kodava Mela. She had held academy registrar responsible for other irregularities.

The Zilla Panchayath meeting held recently had also passed a resoulution to investigate the allegations. Assistant director of Kannada Culture was also tackled in the meeting. Town police have taken his statement yesterday.
