A WORTHY DOGS DEATH!

Madikeri November 12, 2007

It indeed would be worthy to have a dogs’ death, if all dogs receive such an adieu.

“Bachha” an eight year old German Shepard.

This correspondent received a call Saturday and a sobbing lady from the other side announced that her pet dog “Bachha” who is also called as ‘Raajakumara’ has brethed his last. The punch line in the talk was that she is taking it to her village at Shimoga for burying. The news was that she would build a monument for the dog!

The grieved owner of the dog was Dr.Umadevi, district surgeon here. A spinster she is, Umadevi has had four dogs, including ‘Bachha’. They are named, Bachha, Bachhi, beta, Beti.

She broke down as this correspondent entered her house. By passers gathered at her house as her crying hit roads and corners. “ He was my life, he had looked after me for eight long years, should he die during Deevali only?”, Dr.Umadevi cried.

Well, she said that she is taking the dog to Shimoga for funeral.” My grand father is buried the field which the family owns, my cows are all buried there, I will bury my “Bachha” also there and one day they will bury me too in the same land”, she disclosed by rubbing her eyes. A memorial will also be built there, she said.

Dr.Umadevi left the house with her dog packed at the boot of her car.” We should love animals.” Is her message to people who were gaping at her during the last hours before she left the place.

Umadevi returned from Shimoga yesterday and said that the funeral went on well yesterday in the presence of villagers. Plans are ahead to build a ‘baccha’ memorial.

If every dog gets an owner who would travel 900 kilometers to conduct its funeral, the adage, ‘dogs death’ will have no meaning!
