ELEPHANT ELECTROCUTED;Madikeri November 5, 2007 An elephant straying into a villge died of electrocution yesterday. According to reports, three elephants stryed into Chikka Aluvara villge in North Kodagu yesterday night. While returning to the forest, one of them came in contact with a live wire and fell dead. The incident has occurred near a transformer pole. It was suspected that the elephant must have lifted its trunk and came into contact with the live wire and died. Range forest officer Chinnappa and others visited the spot. The carcass was burnt after autopsy conducted on the spot. FAMILY FEUD ENDS IN ATTACKS;A family feud witnessed violent attacks yesterday at Padikal Junction near Gonicoppal. As a result a persons hand was chopped off from the wrist, while another received severe cut on the hand and a lady was attacked on face with a bill hook. The incident occurred as seven sons of Kalappa are laying claim over one acre land. Yesterday evening, Vokkaligara Rayappa chased his sister in law Padma with a bill hook and she hid inside the house of one Uday. Rayappa attacked Udaya who came to protect udaya fell down with a severe cut on his hand which began to bleed. Another relative Radha arrived to protect Padma. An enraged Rayappa Hit her on the face with the bill hook. Padma however managed to escape. Hearing about the attacks, Radha’s son Pradip rushed to the spot in a bike along with his friend Shabari and chopped at one shot the hand of Rayappa. Rayappa and Uday were shifted to a Mysore hospital, while Radha was admitted to Gonicoppal hospital for treatment. LAD FROM KODAGU SWINDLED AT BANGALORE;Shamshuddin, 18, a resident of Somwarpet was reportedly stripped of his cash and a cell phone early yesterday. Shamshuddin, selling plastic items on the foot path in majestic area was returning to his house the day before night. Realising that he forgot to collect change from the city transport conductor, he went to the depot. He was waiting for transport near Arishinakunte. A Maruthi vani surged near him and offered him a lift. An unsuspecting Shamshuddin got into the van and he was forced by the culprits who robbed cash and mobile from him. He escaped after jumping out of the vehicle as it slowed down at some place. A complaint was lodged at peenya police. FATAL JUMP COST HIM HIS LIFE;An auto driver Rajan, 28, playing foot ball died at Maldare near Siddapur as he fell into a gorge, trying to pick the ball. In a complaint to police, the foot ball players stated that Rajan went to fetch the ball which bounced near the gorge formed by a stone quarry and disappeared. Police and players rushed to the spot and searched for the body, twenty feet down. Body was yet to be traced. |
