KUSHALNAGAR TO EMERGE AS TALUK;

Government in its effort to create more than two hundred talukas in the state has decided to convert Kushalnagar as a taluk, according to reliable sources.

Kushalnagar, which is a taluk centre attached to Somwarpet would be christened as Cauvery Taluk.

Members and organizations fighting since decades to get Taluka status to their town are in a celebrating mood and have called a meeting on this 26th to discuss further steps they have to take. Kushalnagar already has infrastructures like tahasildars office, treasury, APMC and other departments functioning from there.

The then Chief Minister Gundu Rao wanted Kushalnagar, which was his home town as a separate Taluk when he was in power.

SHANDY AT APMC YARD;

The much congested weekly Shandy would be shifted to APMC yard shortly at Kushalnagar.

APMC president S.P.Ponnappa stated that the marked would be permanently shifted and sheds and other infrastructures are ready to accommodate market. Farmers and agriculturists will not be charged for selling their goods in the yard round the week.

ERRING PLANTER PUSHED TO PRISON;

Somwarpet court has sentenced imprisonment to a planter who cheated a buyer by issuing cheque.

A planter at Gowdalli, N.R.Chinnappa allegedly collected rupees two lakh from one K.C.Kumar, a coffee dealer at Somwarpet with a promise to give coffee beans. Chinnappa never gave coffee and issued a cheque for the above amount by force. The cheque bounced.

Judge M.N.Soumshi heard the case which was going on since 2003 and sentenced Chinnappa to undergo imprisonment for eight months and pay rupees 2.5 lakhs.
