KODAGU TO JOIN CHAMRAJNAGAR IN PARLIAMENTARY CONSTITUENCY;

The de limitation committee led by Kuldip Singh has axed a legislative constituency in Kodagu and clubbed it with Chamrajnagar.

This comes as a jolt to Kodagu as the elected representatives were crying hoarse about the de limitation and kept on assuring that they are going to appeal against it. Even though appeals had been submitted to the committee by various organizations the announcement of the recommendation has shocked the people.

Kodagu was clubbed with Mangalore Parliamentary constituency all these years and it will be shifted to Chamrajanagar. Chamrajnagar constituency will be converted into a reserved one now.

Among the three legislative constituencies in Kodagu, Somwarpet is axed with only Virajpet and Madikeri constituencies. Virajpet which was a reserved one is turned into a general one.

Representations were submitted to the Committee not to axe the constituencies in Kodagu considering it as a hilly region. People still hope that their appeal might be heard before the president signs the committee’s recommendation.

PREPARATIONS TO HOLD VISHWA KODAVA SAMMELAN;

Preparations are on to hold Vishwa Kodava Sammelan at Madikeri in a grand scale and committees were appealed to shoulder responsibilities.

Chairman of Kodava Academy, Dotty Poovaiah held a meeting yesterday. She sought the co operation from all the communities living in Kodagu. She said that Kodavas are like elder brothers in the district and others have to support them in the convention. She regretted that a section of the society is alleging groupism in the formation of committees and said that anyone interested to join them are always welcome.

Representatives of different Kodava Samajas from in and outside Kodagu took part in the meeting. Sammelan is scheduled for December and thousands of participants are expected from all over the globe. The academy has set rupees one crore as the sammelan expenditure and plans were chalked out to raise found.

Member of the academy kashi Achaiah invoked. Umesh kechamaiah welcomed. Kalimada Bopaiah welcomed the gathering and Kalianda Sabu Aiyanna proposed vote of thanks.
