KANNADA LEARNING ADVISED EVEN IN MADRASAS;Madikeri June 15, 2007 Chairman of Kannada Authority, Dr.Sidda Lingaiah adviced Kannada and Culture department here to begin Kannada centres in Kodagu with the immediate effect. At least ten centers should be started, he advised. Addressing a press conference here yesterday, Siddalingaiah stated that there is keenness among Muslim community to learn Kannada and they shall start teaching it even in Madrasas. He also announced that those who teach at least 25 persons to read and write in Kannada in a place in three months will be given rupees ten thousand. He said that Kannada libraries will be opened at Madikeri CMC and Bustand premises shortly. He directed Kannada and Culture department to organize a Kannada Jatha in the town. He also said that Kannada propagation is successfully being done at border areas like Kasaragodu and other towns attached to Kerala, Tamilnadu and Andrapradesh. Presidents of mangalore Kannada PSahitya parishath, Pradip Kalkura and Kodagu sahitya parishath, T.P.Ramesh were present. DC INSISTS ON ACTION AGAINST MISUSE OF COOKING GAS;Deputy commissioner has asked the food and civil supplies department to stop cooking gas being misused. He spoke to the concerned officers yesterday as complaint about the misuse was received by him from gas service agencies. Local agents, on behalf of Indian Oil Corporation met the deputy commissioner yesterday and suspected that the cylinders are being found in hotels and commercials places. They stated that one can easily differentiate commercial cylinders from cooking cylinders and officials should be advised to conduct inspection and take action against the culprits. However, cooking gas customers state that the agents are misusing cylinders allotted to them and making money. A false cry of shortage is heard and they are not given Gas on requirement basis. PP SECRETARY SUSPENDED;Government has suspended Sheena Naika serving at Mudigere Pattana Panchayath as a chief officer on allegations of misuse of power and cheating. Sheena Naika was serving at Kushalanagar Pattana Panchayath during 2003 and 4 and has allegedly misused power. He is facing charges of creating posts of clerks and engineers by manipulating records and appointed one Prakash as a junior engineer. It is suspected that other officials in district level are also involved in this criminal act. The then Tahasildar of Somwarpet and administrator of Kushalnagar PP told that Sheen Naikas misdeeds had come to light during 2003 during a meeting. Naika had forged the signature of Thammaiah and issued appointment order to prakash as an assistant engineer on daily wage basis. He said that the concerned officials instead of taking action against Naika and praksh had recommended to government to regularize Prakashs service. He was even paid rupees 37,029 as arrears. Naika is now suspended after T.C.Thammaiah has lodged a complaint with Lokayukta for action. BOY DIES IN ACCIDENT;A nine year old boy has died ina road accident yesterday at Siddapur. The accident occurred as Abrama, a third standard student was playing on road. He was trying to collect the ball on the road as a speeding car hit him. The boy died on the spot. Boys father was working for Anandapura Church at Siddapur. As the fate would have it, the accident occurred just in front of the church. The boy was playing cricket in the ground in from of the church and tried to collect cricket ball on the road in between church and the ground. The car was run by one B.Chittiappa of Biligeri and he has paid rupees ten thousand to the parents of the boy. A case is registered. |
