VIDHANA SOUDHA CHALO SUSPENDED;

Madikeri July 28, 2007

The Vidhana Soudha Chalo call issued by Kodagu Existence Committee is suspended for the time being as the Chief Minister has declared in the sessions that the government has withdrawn both the revenue and forest circulars.

The committee convenor and former president of Kodava Samaj, M.N.Belliappa told this correspondent that the government finally bowed down to the pressure and chief minister declared about with drawing the circulars harming Jamma holders of Kodagu in the sessions.

Two circulars from Revenue secretary and another from Forest department would deny right of owners on their own land. Repeated appeals by organizations and peoples representatives yielded no result and the Kodagu existence committee came into existence to fight the issue under one roof.

A call to hold Kodagu bandh and Vidhana Soudha Chalo was issued to protest on this thirtieth. Belliappa said that the protest is only suspended and it will not hesitate to hold it again if such an issue pops up in future.
