SOLDIER FROM KODAGU DIES IN TERRORIST ATTACK;

A soldier from Kodagu died due to attack by terrorists in Poonch region.

Kannikanda Thimmaiah - Ramesh, 32, died yesterday as he had suffered bullet injuries from terrorists on 17th in Poonch sector. He was going in a convoy of five trucks when the incident took place. His was the last truck attacked by terrorists. While the driver and another soldier were killed on the spot, Thimmaiah was shifted with bullet injuries to Jammu hospital. He had spoken to his family and friends the next day and said that he was recovering. However yesterday by 5.50 p.m he breathed his last reportedly due to over bleeding.

Thimmaiah’s parents Cariappa and Seethamma received the shocking news by night while his young wife Asha and elder brother Chengappa were about to catch a flight to fly to Jammu. His younger brother Devaiah is also serving in the army. He is expected to return with the body tomorrow.

Thimmaiah had come on a holiday to Madikeri recently to celebrate the first birth day of his child. He had left only last week and was returning to the base in truck while the attack took place.


COPS SEIZE ARRACK;

Kodagu rural policeyesterday seized illegal arrack satchets worth rupees seventy thousand and seized a car.

Acting on a tip off, police chased a car coming from Mangalore side. Speeding away, the culprits abandoned the car in a cross road and escaped from the scene.

Around 600 sachets were found inside the car. They were packed inside twenty gunny bags.

The car bore KA 19 P 2457 registration and police said that it was a fake number plate.
