CHIKOON GUNYA CASE IN KODAGU;

A newly wed bride spreads chikoon gunya in Kodagu, according to health officials.

The doctors at Siddapur confirmed that Jansi, 23 was married to a family at Hunsur last month. The family there was suffering from Chikoon Gunya and it spread to Jansy also.

The family has now sent Jansi to Siddapur. She said that the Hunsur doctors have said that she has Chikoon Gunya and is being treated.

RAIN VICTIMS HOLD PROTEST;

More than hundred rain victims took out a protest march yesterday and alleged that the district administration has not done enough to rid them of miseries.

Residents of Mangaladevi Nagar dared the lashing rain and went on a protest march in the town yesterday by holding umbrellas. Assembling at Fort premises they accused the district in charge minister for not visiting them and demanded that they be allotted proper piece of land, provided permanent source of income and job security.

Deputy Commissioner Niranjan received the memorandum and said that he will look into the matter. He disclosed that rupees twenty five thousand would be released to those who lose house and compensation will start from rupees two thousand depending upon the type of loss the victims incur.

The protestors demanded that the district in charge minister should visit their places.

TALACAUVERY RECEIVES 250 INCH RAINFALL;

Talacauvery, birth place of Cauvery the life line of Karnataka has recorded 250 inches of rainfall till yesterday. Bhagamandala received ten inches of rain fall in one day yesterday. The district administration which had sent a boat without a boatsman her has sent a motor boat yesterday along with operators.

River banks of Cauvery all over Kodagu are flooded and hundreds of hectares of paddy fields and coffee estates are inundated. Reports of house collapse and landlslides are coming for villages in Madikeri, Somwarpet and Virajpet talukas.

While cauvery devours land and crop in Madikeri taluk, lakshmana Teertha inundates hundreds of acres in south Kodagu in Balele region.

People living around Lakshmana Teertha have demanded permanent solution from flood damage recurring every year. Kanur and Nidugamba villages are islanded loosing contact with the neighbouring towns.

Harangi is flowing full and lands and roads leading to Hassan is blocked with flood as meeting place of Cauvery and Harangi Rivers are posing danger.

Meanwhile, a schedule tribes hamlet is facing double danger at Naladi village in Kakkabe. Rivers on either side of the villge are flowing very high and villagers are unable to cross them. But the herds of elephants are crossing the river and entering naladi, creating tension. They have been creating ruckus by damaguing the crops. They have appealed to the district administration for immediate succour.
