SAINIK SCHOOL FROM THIS SEASON;Madikeri July 17, 2007 Sainik School in Kodagu will commence functioning from this season, according to Col.R.S.Nehra. Nehra spoke to scribes yesterday after inspecting the spot at Kudige near Kushalnagar. He said that the defense officials inspected the land along with the Deputy Commissioner and decided to commence take students for the school. The sainik School will commence at an extent of 55.93 acres land in Kudige agriculture farm area. He disclosed that they will hold meeting with the top government officials today to finalise the plans. The school will accommodate 65 students in the beginning and selection will commence immediately. Fifty percent of the students will be taken from Kodagu and remaining fifty percent will be taken from Bijapur Sainik School. The classes will begin from sixth to twelfth. There are 21 Sainik schools functioning in the country. One in Bijapur is has complete facility of a school. This will be the twenty second school. Col.Sunny, Col.kavarappa, DC Niranjan, ZP vice president Neelamma, BJP office bearers and officials were present. RAIN FURE RE STARTS; SCHOOLS CLOSED;Unabated rainfall yesterday sent the level of rivers up and forced the authorities to close the schools for two days. Cauvery crossed the danger mark yesterday and blocked roads to Talacauvery and Napoklu area. Traffic was hit in many places as rivulets were flowing above bridges and trees were falling. Two cows died in a shed collapse and a person was swept away to a distance by the flash floods yesterday. A cowshed collapsed due to heavy rainfall yesterday at Korangala and two cows died on the spot. A resident of Hosoklu village, Ramaiah was crossing the road in seven foot high flood water and was swept away for about 30 meters in the late evening. He luckily got caught to a tree, submerged in water. People heard him shout for help and he was rescued. A rope was thrown at him and was pulled to safety. He had come to Bhagamandala for shopping and his bag disappeared in the flood. In another incident, people had to carry a dead body on the shoulders to reach home. One Nangaru Ganapathy died at a hospital at Madikeri yesterday. His body had to be taken to Bhagamandala. Water was flowing five feet high to cross the bridge. Vehicles could not ply across. People had no other go but to carry the body on their shoulders and risk the crossing. Residents of Bhagamandala alleged that the boat inaugurated by the MLA recently to be used during floods is of no use. It’s not being used as there is no one to run it. It is a great joke that the district administration which has bought a boat never thought of organizing a boat man. Talacauvery received more than eight inches of rainfall yesterday. Roads are flooded at Aiyengeri, napoklu and other four villages which are islanded. A house at Somwarpet collapsed yesterday and life in the foothills of pushpagiri has become precarious with heavy rainfall. Pushpagiri area recorded 187 inches of rainfall till yesterday. The water level at Harangi was 2857.98 feet. The maximum is 2859 feet. Inflow is 5959 feet and out flow is 4894 feet. |
