WILD ELEPHANT DIES OF ELECTROCUTION;Madikeri July 12, 2007 A tusker with huge ivory succumbed in n estate as it came in contact with a live wire. The heart rending incident occurred yesterday at BBTC estate near Badaga Banagala, about 45 kilometers from here. According to forest officials, the tusker roaming round in the estate stepped on an 11 KV electric wire lying on the ground. It had a great fall and died on the spot. The wire was de liked from the pole due to heavy rainfall and winds. DFO Sooryodaya Patak, RFO Achappa, forester Java and Dr.Sandesh rushed to the spot. The ivory was removed during autopsy and its body disappeared in flames with a touching funeral. POLICE – CITIZENS FORUM IN EVERY VILLAGE;Superintendent of police Trilok Chandra disclosed that a Police – Citizens committee was formed in every village to maintain peace and order in the society. Addressing a citizens meeting at Madikeri yesterday, SP said that police will hold village level meeting each month at respective places and solve minor issues. Many issues could be solved in village level when police go to the doors of people, he said. He stated that extra care would be taken about the old people living alone in some places. Trilokchandra called upon Home Stays and Resorts to be extra careful about the strangers visiting the place as tourists. He appealed to such establishments to co operate with the police to keep track of the visitors. Speaking on behalf of the citizens, journalist G.Chidvilas unfurled multiple problems that have to be addressed by police. Traffic congestion, shifting of the over crowded private bus stand, banning smoking in public places, arranging parking place for goods vehicles etc. President of the Bus owners association, Ramesh Joyappa appealed to police not to impound the busses during accidents. He asked them to release them at police station level inorder to avoid inconvenience to public. He also alleged that there are instances of government busses running without permit in many routes. Scouts and Guides commissioner Baby Mathew, former councilor Monti Ganesh, Babuchandra Ullagaddi from Chamber of Commerce, Divakar DSSC, Harish Acharya of Shivasene, Prince from car drivers association, Samad from Auto drivers association and others spoke on the occasion. They appealed to the SP to train police to behave with public in a cordial manner. DYSPs Rajanna and Deva Naik were present. POLICE RAID NURSING CENTRE;Police raided a bogus nursing centre at Virajpet yesterday and seized fake documents. Raid was conducted against Vinayaka Group of Eduction center running clesses for Nursing students. According to police the institution is not authorized to run school and many students are being cheated by it. Students present in the center said that they have paid fees ranging from rupees 3500 to eight thousand. Though the centre produced record of authorization from a Kerala based institution, BEO Malleswamy told that even that institution is not competent enough to provide education. Manager haridas has promised to refund the fee amount to about fifty students. Partners Babu and Rajan are absconding. |
