SCHOLARSHIP TO PLANTERS CHILDREN;

Coffee board has agreed to allow scholarship to the planter’s children, owning below 22 hectares of coffee estate.

Talking to this correspondent, board member Dr.Kaverappa told that earlier only labor class children were given this scholarship and pressure from the board members was accepted.

Children get scholarship from one thousand rupees to ten thousand, depending upon the classes they are studying in. Kaverappa said that the board has earmarked rupees one crores for scholarship distribution in the present year.

Meanwhile the board has earmarked rupees twenty two crores for crop insurance. Board will bear fifty percent of the insurance premium the small planters below ten hectares are supposed to pay.

CENTRAL MINISTER TO VISIT KODAGU;

Central commerce minister for state, Jayaram Ramesh will visit Kodagu on this fourteenth.

He will arrive here on the thirteenth from Chikmagalur and spend a night. He will visit coffee estates on the fourteenth morning and hold discussion with the planters and listen to their grievances.

‘BAAGINA’ AT HARANGI;

District in charge minister Ramachandra Gowda yesterday performed pooja at Harangi reservoir and let ‘baagina’ into water.

The minister paid a visit to the rehabilitation centre on the banks of Cauvery and other places and said that he will urge the deputy chief minister Yediyurappa to release rupees ten crore for the rain relief in the first phase. The minister consoled the families which have lost their entire houses and crops. Compensation cheques were also released to some of them.

He said that the central government has increased the relief amount to the victims of natural calamity. Family of the deceased will receive rupees one lakh, rupees thirty five thousand for the limbs damage, rupees 7,500 for wounds would be distributed, he said. The minister distributed rupees 1.10 lakh compensation at Somwarpet taluk to the victims.
