BABY ELEPHANT TO ZOO

Madikeri July 8 A baby elephant was lost it’s track from the herds and found in a pool near Dabbadka village touching the reserve forest area. It is just 30 to 40 days baby according to the forest personnel. The male baby was then safely rescued by the Sampaje range forest officer M.S. Chinnappa, K.R.Gopalakrishna and the staff. The baby is handed over to Mysore Zoo for further care.


C.O.D.PROBE URGED

Madikeri July 8 Satish a youth from Valnur Thyagathur village died immediately after he was released from the judicial custody. The Ex. M.L.A Appachu Ranjan urged for C.O.D. enquiry. He alleged that injuries were found on the dead body. He expressed the mishandling by the prison authorities. The deceased Satish’s uncle Janardan has filed a complaint against the prison authorities which has been registered. The hundreds of villagers gathered at post mortem centre and showed their anger and urged for proper investigation. Earlier Satish was arrested by the police on charges of selling illicit liquor. Ranjan said the accused fell on the ground when he was upset in the prison. He died immediately after he was released on bail. The villagers allege and showed many injuries on the dead body.

FLOWN CHECKDAM

Madikeri July 8 The newly constructed check dam at Nandigunda village, Somwarpet Thaluk is flown in the monsoon water and is completely rooted out. The scheme was implemented by the reservoir department and the low quality work has finished it forever. The Somwarpet Thaluk Panchayath president S.M.Disilva visited the spot and observed the ruined dam. The villagers had earlier complained to the Thaluk Panchayath and urged for stringent action against the concerned.

The Check dam costed Rs. 90 thousand which has been cleared to the contractor. The rain and the stream water is overflowing on the paddy fields causing obstruction for farming activity in the region. Surprisingly, no officer from the concerned reservoir department had so for visited the spot for verification and no assurance from them to set right the damage done .Even, the bore wells excavated in the village is also resulted in vain and the Govt money is wasted.

The department should have constructed the protection compound wall before doing the work. The instruction by the Thaluk Panchayath regarding this was ignored said president Disilva. He warned the serious action against the authorities concerned.


MINISTER VISITS FLOOD HIT KODAGU;

District in charge minister Ramachandra Gowda today paid a lightening visit to flood hit Kodagu and said that the district has incurred a loss of 34.5 crores loss.

Minister visited flood hit areas and houses around Balele, Gonicoppal, Siddapur, Karadigodu, Keerehole and Bhagamandala. As a co incident, flood level at Bhagamandala got increased today and the link between Madikeri and Bhagamandala got lost at the time of the ministers visit. He watched areas inundated by flash floods and said that a permanent rehabilitation would be arranged in phases at Keerehole near Gonicoppal and Karadigodu near Siddapur.

Addressing scribes, Ramachandra Gowda said that he will initiate action to release rupees ten crore immediately. According to him, 125 villages are affected by rainrelated havocs and 22,0326 persons are affected by it. The government has paid rupees fifty thousand each to the three families who lost their kin in the flash floods. The body of the fourth person who disappeared from Kodagu was found in a river at Eslur, belonging to Sakleshpur and the compensation has to be paid by Hassan district authorities, he explained.
