PROTEST AGAINST DISTRICT HOSPITALS;Madikeri December 25, 2007 A protest was organized in front of the district hospital yesterday condemning the irregularities. Elected representatives and office bearers of Kannada Sahitya Parishath, Lions Club and Stree Shakti squatted before the hospital and said that corruption and mismanagement in the hospital are affecting the poor patients and proper treatments are not given. City Municipal Council member Baby Mathew, Parishath president T.P.Ramesh, Lions president Niranjan, president of the Mahilodaya Okkoota, Joys Menezes, Medappa, president of Auto drivers and owners associatio led the protest. A memorandum was submitted to the Tahasildar Yashoda to set right the administration and to initiate action to stop corruption in the hospital. Yashoda assured to look into the matter. YOUTH CONGRESS TO INCREASE MEMBERS;State Youth Congress president Krishna Byregowda said here yesterday that he intends to increase the number of youth congress members’ at least to ten lakhs in the state. Addressing youth congress members here, he said that the leadership norms laid down to them by late prime minister of India, Rajiv Gandhi is still vibrant and his son Rahul Gandhi is carrying the mantle at present as the national president of Youth Congress. The main intention of organizing youth congress is to kindle the new spirit in them. Krishna Byregowda stated that the district committee in Kodagu would be reconstituted shortly. He said that the purpose of his tour is to identify leadership potentiality in the district as the post of president is vacant wuith the death of earstwhile president B.G.Arunkumar. Stating that the state politics has reached a dirty phase, he cajoled BJP by stating that it is fighting for power by blaming that it was cheated by JDs. He recalled and said that S.M.krishna had delivered a wonderful service as the state chief minister and the whole nation was admiring Karnataka, including the president of India. JDs and BJP have earned bad name for politics in the state and people look at politicians with disgust. Reacting to the problems at Kodagu, Krishna Byregowda said that the district has grave problems like bad roads, Jamma problems etc. he said that the Union government has reacted promptly to solve the coffee crisis by introducing Vidarba Package and others. He alleged that the state government has failed to implement certain projects. District Congress president Veena Ahaiah presided over the meeting.State youth congress general secretary Anil Thomas, Pavan Kumar, Balakrishna, former minister Suma Vasanth, former president of Zilla Panchayath, K.P.Chandrakala, KPCC member T.P.ramesh and others were on the dais. PEOPLE TO PROTEST AGAINST FOREST DEPARTMENT;A huge rally is being organized against the forest department to protest unabated elephant menace in Kodlipet region. Farmers will takeout a huge procession at Kodlipet and hold a meeting on this 27th. More than a dozen villages around Kodlipet are being affected by elephant menace and about seven people are killed by rogue elephants in the region within a year. Convenor of the protest rally, Venkatesh told at Kodlipet yesterday that they have video graphed the menace incidents where people can see how the elephant herds are marauding their fields and estates. He said that killing of seven people in one region might be a record in Asia and the governments are sitting with folded hands watching the bizarre incidents. He stated that a top forest officer in Kodagu has exhibited utter negligence towards the elephant menace. He said that the officer reacted to their complaint by stating that “I did not come to Kodagu to catch elephant”. He disclosed that the farmers will file case in high court to fight for their right to live in peace. |
